We are actively seeking a passionate, driven, and ambitious Microbiologist to join us a full-time team member.

Position

Reporting to our Lead Scientist, this Microbiologist will serve as a member of the technical team, focused on the development of novel food products. This individual will create, drive, and develop alternative seafood products from concept through commercialization. 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in fungal physiology, fungal growth optimization and nutrient requirements

  • Perform hands-on experiments aimed at defining microbial nutrient requirements and optimization

  • Identify metabolic pathways in fungi to drive characterization and growth improvements

  • Work with cross-functional teams to support scale-up and implementation of microbial growth parameters

  • Discover and analyze connections between genotypes and key phenotypes of fungi, to develop improved strains

  • Prepare project proposals, conduct bench-top work and analyze, summarize and present scientific outcomes

  • Provide accurate, clear, and concise reports on R&D activities

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree (M.S.) in Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field

  • 5+ years of demonstrated microbiology laboratory experience

  • Experience in the culture and genetic manipulation of bacterial and/or fungal species

  • Demonstrated mastery of experimental design, statistical analysis using R, Matlab or Minitab

  • Results oriented - displays a high energy level, and puts top priority in getting results

  • Ability to make decisions and communicate effectively while under pressure

  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and project management skills

  • Comfortable working in a start-up environment

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage complexity

  • Self-motivated by problem solving in highly ambiguous situations

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and influence technical direction

Location

  • Selected candidate will work on-site with our team in Chicago Office. Remote work is not available for this role.
