Clara Foods is bringing an egg white to the table that is produced completely animal-free using fermentation technology, that uses less land and water inputs, while matching the taste, nutritional value, and unique culinary properties of hen-borne egg whites.

We are looking for a candidate with an interest and experience in food applications development, ingredient validation and protein chemistry. Experience in manufacturing liquid / dry egg as an ingredient and use of eggs in end use applications would be highly desirable.

Reports to: Associate Director, Product

Role and Responsibilities

• Evaluate and validate proteins in model systems.

• Perform quality tests to check for compliance of ingredients to quality specifications.

• Design experiments to evaluate end use applications and characterization of the product.

• Optimize internal and external analytical resources to provide timely and reliable analytical support to the Product Team within Clara Foods.

• Contribute towards protein validation, protein research, discovery & analysis projects in line with Clara Foods’ product commercialization strategy.

• Partner with Bioanalytical Process Chemistry Team to develop protocols for isolating high purity proteins from microbial, plant or animal sources. 

• Provide customer support for application development.

• Timely procurement, evaluation & generation of know-how for protein candidates to enrich Clara’s protein discovery funnel.

•  Regular inspection, calibration and maintenance of analytical instrumentation used by Product Team.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Master’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Protein Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Plant Biology or a similar program.

• 2 to 5 years of experience in an industrial setting (e.g. Analytical Chemistry, Biotechnology, Food Chemistry, Protein Chemistry).

• Must be authorized to work in the United States for Clara Foods.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

• Experience working in a GLP/GMP lab environment and familiarity with lab safety best practices is required. 

• Ability to contribute in a fast paced, research-oriented environment.

• Knowledge of food chemistry, ingredient technology, food processing and analytical

techniques used in food industry is highly desirable.

• Direct experience operating column chromatography system (e.g. AKTA), HPLC, high throughput analysis platforms would be highly desirable. 

• Experience in standard protein and small molecule separation and characterization techniques is highly desirable (e.g. SDS-PAGE, enzymology, UV/Vis/Fluorescence spectroscopy). 

• Strong communication and presentation skills.

• Good teamwork, ability to multitask, and good organization skills.

• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and statistical analysis.
