Job Description

We have a strong team of scientists with deep knowledge of mammalian and microalgae cell cultivation. Now, we’re looking for a Bioprocess Engineer.

What we need from you 💻

As a Bioprocess Engineer at Mewery, you will play a key role in planning and executing process development for our unique cultivated meat platform.  

Our ideal candidate has experience with bioreactors and fermentation processes/culturing, understands cell culture techniques, and is motivated to contribute to the future of cultivated food.

The position is based in Brno, Czech Republic, and is open to candidates with different levels of experience with fermentation and bioreactors.  

What you’ll do:

  • Implement and execute bioreactor development activities, including setup, operation, and associated analysis of cell culture in bioreactor processes

  • Run general bioreactor operations, such as sterilization and setting up cultivation processes, to maintain the run schedule. 

  • Design and perform experiments focused on mammalian cell growth in bioreactors.

  • Support upstream process development and process optimization.

  • Monitor cultivation performance and analyze process-related data.

  • Maintain accurate records, experimental documentation, and test results.

  • Collaborate with multiple team members to support project execution and project management.

  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners to support process development activities.

  • Identify technical challenges and contribute to potential solutions.

  • Support continuous improvement of bioreactor processes and operational workflows.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cell Biology/Biochemistry/Chemical Engineering/Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in upscaling processes in bioreactor systems. 

  • Relevant industrial experience with upscaling processes in bioreactor systems.

  • Experience working in an aseptic environment.

  • Experience with mammalian cell culture. Experience with MSCs, iPS cells, or CHO cells is an advantage.

  • Experience with GMP manufacturing.

  • Experience working with third parties, including equipment vendors and contract manufacturing partners for insourcing or outsourcing activities.

  • Project management skills, including experience with strategic and tactical planning.

  • Ability to motivate peers and team members while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and propose potential solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Responsible, creative, highly committed, organized, and a strong team player.

  • Fast learner with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic R&D environment.
