Full Time Lab Assistant, Strain Engineering/Lab Operations

Reports To: Senior Research Associate, Strain Engineering

FLSA Status: Non-exempt, Full Time

Location: South San Francisco, CA

Skills and Experience

• Associates degree in biological science or biotechnology
• 1-3 years work experience as a lab assistant
• Experience making solutions, making media and plates, cleaning labware, operating autoclaves and industrial dishwashers, placing orders as needed
• Experience making DNA minipreps and maxipreps is a big plus
• Comfortable working within a small, collaborative team, passionate about changing the world of food
• Experience with following lab safety protocols and procedures

Role and responsibilities

As a key member of the Strain Engineering team, you will:

• Make solutions, media and plates
• Clean labware 
• Place orders and monitor inventory
• Coordinate workload with other Lab Assistants.
• Help to maintain an orderly lab
• DNA purification using commercial purification kits
• Assist Scientists with work when needed
• Assist in High Throughput Screening efforts
