Senior BioProcess Associate

Clara Foods is currently seeking a talented and innovative Senior BioProcess Associate to join our BioProcess Development team located at our South San Francisco, CA. As a Senior BioProcess Associate, you will have the opportunity to participate in activities directly related to different aspects of process development and industrialization of animal free animal proteins. You will be a key figure to work on manufacture of transformative ingredients and change the existing food system.

Reports to: Head of BioProcess Development

FLSA Status: Exempt, Full Time

Location: South San Francisco, CA

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Execute downstream processing using various methods not limited to centrifugation, filtration (UF/DF), chromatography, flocculation, precipitation, etc. on a routine basis
• Analyze the samples generated using the standard process analytical tools 
• Drive improvements in yield, quality, and efficiency in the process across various products using different techniques
• Have the ability to learn new equipment quickly
• Document results and present to the team
• Have the ability to be an independent contributor and work under ambiguity
• Develop data packages for the transfer of technology to commercial production partners 
• Coordinate with the QA team to complete the product validation 
• Support scale-up scale-down experiments and work to creatively find solutions for at scale problems

Skills and abilities:

• Bachelor's degree with 5-10 years of experience or Master's degree with 2-4 years of experience or a doctorate degree
• Demonstrating downstream experience at scale would be highly preferred
• Existing knowledge about upstream, downstream processes and the ability to link upstream broth to downstream purified finished product would be a plus
• Good communicator and be comfortable with handling simultaneous tasks.
