HenArt debuts baked dog food made with Enifer's PEKILO mycoprotein
ByEditor
Dutch pet-food brand HenArt has launched LEVENDO, a semi-moist, gently baked complete food for adult and senior dogs. Its core ingredient is PEKILO, a mycoprotein made by Finnish biotech company Enifer. The product is sold in the EU and UK and is formulated to FEDIAF guidelines as a complete and balanced everyday diet. It is PEKILO's first international consumer launch.
“We have spent years showing that PEKILO can deliver the nutrition, digestibility and palatability pet-food manufacturers need. LEVENDO is an important next step: it shows that PEKILO performs in formulation and production. That is a significant milestone in moving mycoprotein from promising ingredient technology into mainstream pet nutrition.”
—Simo Ellilä, CEO, Enifer
- HenArt developed the recipe and its proprietary blend of ingredients derived from microbial fermentation in-house, and established European manufacturers handle production.
- LEVENDO is sold through HenArt's online store and specialist distributors across Europe and the UK, and the company is seeking national pet-retail chains, online pet retailers, and grocery partners.
- A 60-day canine feeding study found that PEKILO had high digestibility and palatability with no negative effect on stool quality, and it reported early signs of potential immune-support benefits.
- Enifer, which has raised almost €60 million, is commissioning a 3,000-ton PEKILO factory in Kirkkonummi, Finland, and plans full-scale production in 2027.
- HenArt is developing wet-food products that pair its ingredient blend with its TenderCraft technology.
